System Announcements

  • Kind Attention: University of Wales – Students (Monday, October 31, 2011)
    31stOctober,2011

Kind Attention: University of Wales – Students

Considering the recent developments and news articles, please find below reply from University of Wales officials.

University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Swansea Metropolitan University and the University of Wales will merge to form one new University. Recent developments in Welsh Higher Education policy have been driven by a desire for there to be fewer universities in Wales. The Welsh Government is putting policies in place to have only six universities (there are currently eleven).  Our merger is in response to this challenge from the Government.

The name of the new institution shall be University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The University of Wales will surrender its federal 1893 Royal Charter and the new University will come under the University of Wales Trinity Saint David charter of 1822 (only Oxford and Cambridge have older Royal Charters, I understand). In order to accomplish this, there is a legal and parliamentary process to be gone through which may take some time – the University will notify you when it is completed, but it unlikely to be before September 2012.

All students enrolled on a University of Wales programme will receive a University of Wales award upon successful completion of their studies

Please find attached a set of FAQs for students in response to the recent merger announcements.

  • May 1st 2011 Dissertation: Important notification (UOW Students) (Wednesday, May 4, 2011)
May 1st 2011 Dissertation: Important notification (UOW Students)

We would like all UOW MBA students,  who commenced their dissertation on May 1st 2011 to be informed, that no deferral or withdrawal will be allowed once you start the session .

Students not completing their dissertation within the permissible 6 months time will be awarded a Fail grade. This is as per the UOW policy. No extensions are allowed where a student is unable to complete the dissertation within these 6 months.

Withdrawals are not allowed once the session has commenced unless there are extenuating circumstances that can be documented with adequate proof such as sudden hospitalisation, death in the family etc. All documentary evidence in this case must be submitted to the Faculty Coordinator and his decision will be final. Reprieve under extenuating circumstances does not apply to work related situations or sudden work related travel.

Students who are contemplating deferring the start of the dissertation to later or are confronted with work related pressures which might constrain them to withdraw at a later date are hereby strongly advised to withdraw now ( before May 5th, 2011) so as to avoid a Fail grade.
